The University of Derby has recently purchased a quantity of Chroma-Q® Color Force™ 12 LED fixtures and Chroma-Q Universal colour changers, for use on their acclaimed BSc (Hons) degree course in Sound, Light and Live Event Technology.

The course was specifically designed so that graduates leave with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue careers in the live production, technology and event industries.

Course Leader, Simon Lewis and Media Technology Lecturer, Kit Lane chose the Chroma-Q products from a wide selection of potential options.

The department already owned a quantity of Chroma-Q Color Block™ DB4 fixtures that they were very impressed with, so when it came to upgrading their lighting system, they were naturally keen to take another look at Chroma-Q.

Students on the course produce events in various venues around the city and the region; from small club gigs to graduation balls, large concert halls and complex theatre performances.

For this, Kit explains the importance of having access to the latest, most dynamic and flexible technologies that can be applied to lighting different genres of live performance in any environment. The University was also keen to start building up their LED inventory in view of carbon footprint and sustainability becoming an increasingly important issue in the world of events.

Kit explains why they were drawn to the Color Force range: “Color Force are extremely flexible and adaptable, they are also incredibly easy to deploy and can be used for many applications such as truss toning, washing a cyc and as a stage flood.” He adds that the ample brightness, low power consumption and good colour rendition also stood out on the fixtures.

The Universal colour changers were chosen for their adaptability, which includes an integrated universal mounting system and their ability to be fitted to fixtures with up to 50 degree beam angles without light loss.

The new equipment will be used on a daily basis by the 100 plus students on the three or four year course.

The equipment was supplied by Chroma-Q’s exclusive UK dealer, A.C. Entertainment Technologies Ltd. (AC-ET).
