Oak Hills Church Called to INSPIRE

Oak Hills Church Called to INSPIRE

May 16, 2017 09:29

North America - Originally founded in 1958, the newly completed Oak Hills Church sits on a 34-acre campus that includes a multi-purpose sanctuary, over 100,000 square feet of education space, youth facilities, small chapel, 1800-seat multi-purpose sanctuary and three educational wings.

Ranked 44th largest church in 2016 (Outreach Magazine), this nondenominational house of worship has an attendance of over 9,200 members and visitors (weekly).

Known for its inclusivity, Oak Hills Church values unity, which makes worship a main activity- one that allows the church to minister to a larger parishioner base.

“The new building’s Worship Space has a fan shape with seating for 2,600, half of which is on a sloped floor and the other half offers stadium seating,” said Tony Luetkenhaus, Senior Associate at San Antonio based firm, RVK Architects. “Instead of using the more traditional approach of acoustical panels mounted directly to walls to help with sound control we designed a wood slat wall system for the side and rear walls to conceal the acoustical treatments and create a dynamic, warm and intimate space.”

To achieve even lighting coverage throughout the sanctuary, a 15FC target was required. It was also important, since lighting a larger space and hosting multiple services each week, that lighting be energy efficient. Coverage between seating levels, multiple beam spreads, the need for pendant and recessed fixtures, as well as glare-free lighting was mandatory.

The Chroma-Q® Inspire™ range was chosen for this project because of its ability to meet or exceed all of the above specifications.

“Inspire Mini™ fixtures were used along the rear wall since they were so close to the seating,” said David Brown of All Pro Sound. “Narrow lenses were used in the center of the room as it has a higher ceiling and wide spread lenses were used on the side seating.”

The main benefits of this specific fixture placement: flexibility in creating moods for various services.

The Chroma-Q Inspire LED house light is a powerful multi-purpose creative lighting tool that provides users with the ability to transform the look and feel of their venue by seamlessly transcending the physical barrier between the stage and audience.

Providing a range of beautiful whites, soft pastels and bold saturates, the Inspire’s fully homogenized lens options offer a choice of stunning mixed colors with no unsightly color separation shadows, in an energy-efficient compact LED design providing reduced maintenance and running costs.

“Control of the color helps adjust the mood and becomes an extension of the program and creates a cohesive experience,” continued David. “Jands Vista L5 Console was requested and chosen by the church due to familiarity with the Jands line of products, ease of use of the graphic based interface and timeline functionality.”

The Jands Vista L5 Console comes with an 8 or 16 universe dongle, allowing users to control up to 4096 or 8192 DMX channels. The unit boasts a massive 21-inch High-Definition TFT screen, the L5 gives users all the space users need to work the way users want. With 1920 x 1080 resolution, the L5’s screen has plenty of room to add and re-arrange windows, so users can do more.

The installation of both the Chroma-Q Inspire range and the Jands Vista L5 Console, has contributed to beautiful lighting choreography that meets all of the necessary requirements, in addition to supporting the message and enhancing the worship experience.

“Similar product lines were chosen for the Oak Hills Church (Alamo Ranch Campus) for the same reasons,” said David.
